Duplex Glow-Up: Guest Room Ready

I wanted this room to feel like a quiet escape, the kind of place where a guest walks in, sets down their bag, and actually exhales. Soft green, coastal oak, black, and white. Calm, natural, and grounded.

I approached it the same way I did the rest of the duplex: start with the right foundation, protect your investment, and let the details do the storytelling. Every piece in here earned its place, from the cooling hybrid mattress to the luggage rack that makes guests feel genuinely welcome.

If you’re furnishing a guest room or setting up a short-term or mid-term rental, this is the full list of what pulled it together.

The Build

The bed is the foundation, and I didn’t cut corners. A spindle frame  anchors the room, topped with a cooling hybrid mattress that actually sleeps well. A mattress protector and soft pillows with protectors round it out because guests deserve a hotel-quality sleep.

From there, it’s the details that make the room feel considered. Blackout curtains keep it dark and restful no matter the hour. A nightstand paired with a power strip on top means no one’s hunting for an outlet at midnight.

The standing desk in my second guest room was a deliberate call. Mid-term guests, people staying weeks or months, need a real workspace. It makes the room function as both a retreat and a place to get things done without compromising the aesthetic.

And the luggage rack, a set of two, is the detail that quietly says you thought of everything.

Area Rug
The room’s foundation. A natural-toned rug that ties together the wood, green, and white without competing for attention.

Blackout Curtains
Light-blocking curtains in a neutral tone and elevated look. I got the length in 9ft for the drama and my high ceilings.

Spindle Bedframe
The room’s centerpiece. A black spindle frame with an architectural silhouette that anchors the green and white palette. Clean, bold, and intentional.

Zinus Comfort Support Mattress (Soft)
A soft, body-contouring hybrid with wrapped coils for motion isolation. Soft enough to sink into after a long day, supportive enough that they actually wake up rested.

Nectar Cooling Hybrid Mattress (Medium Firm)
A mattress that delivers. The hybrid construction keeps sleepers cool and comfortable through the night. Great for guests who need a little more structure.

Mattress Protector
Invisible protection that extends the life of your investment. Non-negotiable for a rental.

Nightstands
A fluted-drawer nightstand that keeps the look modern and the clutter hidden. The open cubby handles the rest.

Power Strip
Sits on top of the nightstand so guests can charge everything without hunting for an outlet at midnight.

Pillows
Hotel-soft with a down-like fill that actually holds its shape. Breathable, washable, and the kind guests sink into and don’t want to get up from.

Pillow Protector
Keeps pillows fresh between stays. A small detail that matters more than you’d think.

Layering Blanket
A soft, lightweight throw that adds warmth without weight. The quilted design and neutral tone layer perfectly over the bed, cozy without overdoing it.

Luggage Rack
The detail that makes a guest room feel like a hotel, practical, welcoming, and intentional.

Electric Standing Desk
A solid wood standing desk with memory height settings and a built-in stand alarm, everything a guest needs to work comfortably without cluttering the room.

Tissue Box Cover
A small detail, but it makes a difference. It keeps things looking polished and intentional instead of cluttered.

This room is proof that you don’t need a huge budget to create a space that feels considered. Start with the mattress, protect your investment, and let the details do the rest.

More rooms in the duplex coming soon.
